Growing up in New Orleans, my love for jewelry was born out of the artistic influences and broad cultural mix of this eccentric city. The intrinsic charm and romance of life in south Louisiana has fostered my creativity and love for jewelry design and artistic expression.
The Crescent City has emerged from our great storm reclaiming the arts, sounds, and tastes that have drawn so many people who appreciate the essence that is a part of our lives. This rebirth inspired me to start BKG Designs, realizing my dream to create and promote a collection of jewelry that reflects my appreciation of beauty in nature.
My first collection draws its fashion from the mysterious nature of crop circles. I believe there is a supernatural parallel between the appearance of these circles and the shadowy and haunted nature of New Orleans. Both of these locations are frequented by the spirits of their ancestors. Visitors to the crop circles as well as to the historic French Quarter, claim to hear and sense other beings. Some people develop intense emotions, in addition to many more unexplainable happenings. Crop circles seem to be beyond one’s power to know, understand, or explain. As a child, I was drawn to the enigma that surrounds these magnificent formations and their physical and mental impact on some who observe them. I perceive the circles to be complex phenomenon with breathtaking beauty and splendor. I have continued to explore the complexity and magnificence of crop circles, even till today.
I am sharing my first collection in hopes that you will be moved by the unique, artistic, high quality, hand-crafted pieces, and the marvelous stones which adorn them. The 2008 Crop Circle Collection has charm, elegance, and the allure of wearable art. Through the mediums of sterling silver and 24 Karat Gold plating, I have invented a new way to feel beautiful and live well.
In order for BKG Designs to flourish, local interest and support is necessary. That is why, 2% of every jewelry purchase will always go back into the community. BKG Designs is honored to announce that the Covenant House’s Woman and Child program will be the beneficiary of these funds. Founded in 1972 in New York City, Covenant House is located in 21 cities and 6 countries. For more than 20 years, New Orleans Covenant House has provided a safe haven for troubled youth and their children in the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas. BKG Designs believes in this institution because it provides a 24 hour open door policy which includes shelter, food, clothing, and immediate crisis care. In addition, they fund a program that helps young parents receive an education, a vocation, and training in life skills. The Covenant House is an undeniable asset to our community.
